The year 2023 is now officially in the books, and it was one filled with many memorable moments for Victor Wembanyama. As he welcomed 2024, Wembanyama took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share what is his favorite picture from the last year.

His father, Felix Wembanyama, and mother, Elodie de Fautereau, would have certainly been very proud to see him being drafted with the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. They’d have seen first-hand just how hard he worked to get to that point, and there is no greater feeling as a parent than to see your son or daughter shine in their life.

In the same way, there is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you know you’ve made your parents proud. So, it’s not surprising that this will be the moment the 19-year-old will cherish forever.

For those wondering just how tall Wembanyama’s parents are, his father stands at 6’6″ while his mother is 6’3″. Felix was a track and field athlete in his youth, while Elodie was a basketball player. Her father, Michel, played professional basketball, and his grandmother, Marie Christine, played the sport as well, so it certainly runs in the family.

Victor Wembanyama Took A Wild Shot At Las Vegas

Let’s now transition from something the teenager treasures to something he is not the biggest fan of. Wembanyama got to play in Las Vegas in 2022 and recently called the city the closest thing to dystopia on Earth.

“To me, on Earth, it’s probably the closest thing to a dystopia,” said the French star.

LeBron James loves playing in Vegas and wants to own an NBA team there, but Wembanyama certainly doesn’t hold the area in very high regard. It would have been quite hilarious if the NBA had a team in Las Vegas this season, which got the No. 1 pick of the 2023 Draft. Fortunately for him, that wasn’t the case.

Wembanyama will probably have to make plenty of trips to Las Vegas in the future, though. The city is almost certainly going to get a team when the NBA expands in a few years, and he’d probably have to play there a couple of times a year. Vegas also hosted the In-Season Tournament semifinals and final this season, and the NBA might decide to keep it as the permanent host.

Victor Wembanyama’s Impressive Rookie Season

Wembanyama has not been able to lead the San Antonio Spurs to too many wins this season, as they are just 5-27, but he is having a very impressive rookie campaign nonetheless. He is averaging 18.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game.

It is not often that we see a rookie lead the NBA in one of the major statistical categories. He is also on track to average a double-double as a rookie, a feat only accomplished by five players in the 21st century.

It still might not be enough for him to win Rookie of the Year, though, as Chet Holmgren appears to be the favorite at the moment. The Spurs will have to win a lot more to bolster the Frenchman’s case for the award, but it doesn’t look like they’ll win too many games in 2023-24.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
