Kevin Durant hasn’t yet played for his new team, but he got closer to his debut today after making his first official press conference as a member of the Suns.

As one of the top five players in the world, fans and experts are still reeling from the news of his trade from the Nets and how his arrival on the Suns has changed the NBA.

While we don’t yet know what this new era will bring for KD, he did look back on reflect on his departure from Brooklyn. In an emotional moment, he explained what his time with the team meant to him amid a chorus of boos from the crowd.

“It was a lot of ups and downs but I loved the grind,” said Durant. “Everybody in Brooklyn loved the grind, too so I built a family over there. They gonna always be a part of my journey. We didn’t accomplish what we wanted to accomplish as far as winning a championship but I enjoyed the grind and everybody there, we tried our hardest everyday regardless of what was going in in the media or teammates. I love those guys. I get emotional talking about it because that was a special four years of my career. They helped me through a lot.”

Durant didn’t mention any names, but it seems he’s still cool with Kyrie Irving despite all that happened during their time together with the Nets. And while his years in NYC will always be remembered as a failure, it’s a place where Durant was able to thrive and rebuild his career after suffering a potentially career-ending injury.

Brooklyn Nets Are The Greatest ‘What If’ In NBA History

With Spencer Dinwiddie and a bunch of young pieces, the Nets are essentially back to where they were years ago and that’s a shame considering the talent they once had. During the 2021-22 season, the team still had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.

Yet, somehow, the ‘big three’ only played 17 games together and now stand as one of the greatest ‘what ifs’ the league has ever known.

In Phoenix, KD has the chance to start fresh and focus strictly on basketball with a team built to win now. So as Durant gets closer and closer to his first Suns game, we can expect fewer mentions of the past and all the baggage that comes with it.
