The year 2020 was a historic one all around the world for a very sad reason. The COVID-19 pandemic took hold all across the globe, and every avenue for people to go out was shut down for a few months.
NBA players felt the difference when they finished the 2019-20 season in the Bubble in Orlando. LeBron James won his fourth title and first with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the King didn’t quite enjoy the Bubble experience. The difference between his and then Thunder big man Steven Adams’ reactions to it is too funny.
“And if you were not in the Bubble, you don’t quite understand it. This is literally out of your whole comfort zone,” James said. “No family, I didn’t see my family for eight and a half weeks. And my room, literally seeing the walls, it’s like The Shining. Just like, coming down the walls.”
Hilariously enough, Adams had the opposite response when asked about the Bubble saying, “It’s all good, mate. Let’s be clear mate, it’s not Syria mate. It’s not that hard. It’s not that difficult. We’re living on a bloody resort.”
This LeBron vs Steven Adams perspective on the bubble made me weep 😭pic.twitter.com/PWOpn0S744

While LeBron James made it sound like one of the most harrowing experiences anyone could have, Steven Adams kept it as real as possible. The NBA stars had access to all the facilities within the Bubble, and while it must have been really difficult not to see their families for a while, it certainly wasn’t the end of the world.
LeBron James Was A Deciding Factor For Players To Even Enter The NBA Bubble In Orlando
Many fans and players alike criticized the Bubble concept even at the time. They didn’t think that it was a good enough solution to the situation and many didn’t want to play. And Austin Rivers recounted how LeBron James deciding to play is what pushed it over the edge.
“We were all just waiting to see if LeBron was gonna play or not. And if he wasn’t, then people were just gonna move on and not wanna play. Udonis Haslem literally grabbed the mic and gets up and goes, ‘Ayo, big bro, what we doing?’ … He goes, ‘If you ain’t playing, the Heat are out.’ And he drops the mic.”
LeBron James wanted the Bubble to happen and he contributed to ensuring that it did. On top of that, the situation brought him his fourth NBA championship to boot. LeBron has been called out in the past for exaggerating things, and his later description of the Bubble does feel like it is heavily embellished.
