The 2022-23 season has been quite a weird one for the Miami Heat.

They came into their clash with the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday after winning four of their last five games but were blown out in embarrassing fashion at home. The cameras panned to Udonis Haslem late in the game and he looked dejected.

Haslem is going to retire after this season and he was disgusted by what he saw in that second half. The Heat actually led 69-65 at halftime but proceeded to get outscored 64-31 the rest of the way to lose 129-100. Jimmy Butler had just 18 points on the night and had a plus-minus of -33, which was the worst of the game. His co-star Bam Adebayo had just 16 points to go with 7 rebounds and the Heat will need a lot more from their two big guns moving forward.

This loss also means the Nets overtook the Heat for the sixth seed and they now find themselves in the play-in spots with a 40-35 record. The Heat were the top seed in the East last season, so to drop off to this extent would be quite disappointing for them.

Udonis Haslem Said This Is Not How He Wanted His Last Season To Go

Haslem hasn’t been very happy with what he has been seeing from his teammates this season. He said earlier this month that he has been losing sleep at night because of some of their losses and added that this wasn’t how he wanted his last year to go.

The Heat were so close to making the NBA Finals last season and Haslem probably expected another deep playoff run this time around. The way things are going, a return to the Eastern Conference Finals seems highly unlikely and Haslem perhaps needs to light a fire under his teammates to get them going. If he can’t, then his final season will end in disappointment.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
