After scoring on Jaylen Brown during the preseason game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Patrick Beverley brought out the ‘Too Small’ celebration.

Beverley is known for trying to get under the opposition’s skin with these kinds of antics, but to do this in a preseason game is quite an interesting decision. He’s the classic case of the player you love when he’s on your team, but hate as an opponent, and this would have earned him some love from the 76ers fanbase.
The two points he scored here were part of a 12-point outing for Beverley, who also had a rebound and an assist. While the 76ers were leading in the third quarter, the Celtics would eventually come back and get a 114-106 win, with Brown scoring 19 points.
Patrick Beverley Did The ‘Too Small’ Celebration On LeBron James Last Season
The most famous instance of Beverley doing the ‘Too Small’ celebration certainly came against LeBron James last season. The 35-year-old was, of course, a teammate of LeBron’s on the Los Angeles Lakers, and the whole thing blew up on social media. Beverley did then explain why he did the celebration against James.
“I do it to everybody,” Beverley said. “I was just having fun, getting lost in the game. Just getting lost in the game, having fun, man. We’re not construction workers. We’re not guys that have to get up at 4 o’clock in the morning. We’re professional basketball players. It’s all about having fun. That’s what we tried to do tonight, well, what I tried to do tonight.”
The Lakers made sure to pay him back, though, with Austin Reaves doing the celebration after scoring on Beverley when the teams met again a few days later. Maybe someone on the Celtics will do it too when the teams face off again on Wednesday.
What To Expect From The 76ers In 2023-24
I think it’s safe to say things were looking a lot better for the 76ers this time last year than they are now. Philadelphia seemingly had the best team of the Joel Embiid era last season and looked primed for a deep run.
It wasn’t to be, though, as they lost to the Celtics in seven games in the Conference Semifinals, and now, things have well and truly gone south.
James Harden has made it clear he wants out, and it doesn’t seem like there is anything they can do to make him stay. As if Harden’s potential exit wasn’t going to be a big enough blow, the 76ers have seen two of their main rivals make big moves as well.
The Celtics have acquired Jrue Holiday, while the Milwaukee Bucks have landed Damian Lillard. The two teams were already seen as being superior to the 76ers, and with these moves, they have pulled further ahead. Unless the 76ers manage to get a great haul in return for Harden, I don’t see them getting past the second round in 2024 either.
When Beverley is one of the more notable acquisitions you have made in the offseason, it’s not saying much. He is a solid player, having averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game last season, but is not a game-changer by any means.
If they do end up having another disappointing season, then all eyes will be on Embiid. The injury-prone 29-year-old only has so many years left at the top and might want to play for a team that can actually contend. It’d be a devastating blow if Embiid hands in a trade request, but I can certainly see it happening if 2023-24 ends poorly.
