Zach Lowe Says That NBA Executives Were Afraid Of Giannis Antetokounmpo Teaming Up With Luka Doncic Before Milwaukee Extension

The modern era of basketball has featured a lot of player movement between teams. It is often that we hear of a superstar player switch teams, and the superteam era has featured some amazing squads full of star power. However, there are some moves that seem absolutely insane, even for today.

One of those potential moves could have been Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially teaming up with Luka Doncic. Both Doncic and Antetokounmpo are young superstars who look like the future of the NBA, and a duo of the two would probably dominate the NBA for years to come. Zach Lowe reported that prior to Giannis Antetokounmpo signing the extension from the Milwaukee Bucks, there was a real fear among NBA executives that the duo would become a reality on the Dallas Mavericks.

Prior to the Milwaukee Bucks signing of Giannis Antetokounmpo to a lucrative contract extension, NBA executives reportedly were fearful that Antetokounmpo would team up with Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic.

Zach Lowe: “Perhaps the follow-on issue is that version of Antetokounmpo — as much finisher as initiator — requires an elite creator closer to his level. This is why rival executives lived in abject terror before Antetokounmpo signed his supermax over the spectre of Antetokounmpo joining Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks.”

If the two were ever to team up on the Mavericks, they would be borderline unstoppable. Giannis Antetokounmpo is a dominant inside force, while Luka Doncic is a top-tier shot creator. The duo would be deadly, and there is no doubt that even the possibility of them on the same team would be scary for teams in the league.
