10-Year-Old Derrick Rose’s Son PJ On His Dad: “He Means Everything To Me. He Taught Me How To Play Basketball.”

Fatherhood is a gift that most NBA players take very seriously, as the league is full of players who have their own families. While we see their on-court competitiveness, we rarely get to see their off-court nature with their families.

Derrick Rose is one of the most private personalities in the league, but he is often snapped in front of the camera watching his son, PJ Rose, play basketball. The 10-year-old lit it up in a game on Father’s Day, making the former MVP happy. PJ spoke about his father’s impact on his basketball aspirations.

“He means everything to me. He taught me everything. He taught me how to play basketball. He’s my trainer.”

Rose was stuck to the end of the bench of the New York Knicks as one of the team’s veterans. He has value to the Knicks as a player who has been coached by Tom Thibodeau for years and can be the locker room veteran that makes communication easier.

The Knicks have a team option worth $15.5 million to keep Rose on for the 2023-24 season. They need to make a decision by June 24 for the player who played just 27 games this season and averaged 5.6 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 rebounds.

Derrick Rose With An Uncertain Future

The market value for Rose will be hard to gauge, given the minimal playtime he got. The last time he looked like a solid option was during the 2021 playoffs, with his minutes steadily declining since. The Knicks would be unlikely to pick his team option up unless it’s to use Rose as salary filler in a trade.

Most likely, they decline the option and re-sign Rose for another season to be the team’s designated veteran. If they don’t, some luxury tax contender could definitely use Rose on their roster on a minimum contract. Maybe even a Chicago Bulls homecoming could be useful if the squad still has a backup point guard hole to fill.
