LaVar Ball Compares LaMelo To Michael Jackson: “Tell Me, Have You Ever Seen A Marquee Guy That You Promoting In All Of This ‘Brothers Going Up Against Each Other,’ And He Don’t Start?”

2 Min Read

LaMelo Ball has been playing pretty well for the Hornets so far. Through 9 games, he’s averaging 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists on 40% shooting.

Still, despite the numbers, Melo is still coming off the bench for Charlotte, a move that LaVar unsurprisingly has an issue with. In a chat with Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report, here’s what he said:

“Tell me, have you ever seen a marquee guy, a marquee guy that you promoting in all of this ‘brothers going up against each other,’ and he don’t start?” he said. “I never seen that before in my life. That’s like telling Michael Jackson, ‘Hey man, you coming on second.’”

For those that somehow don’t know, Michael Jackson was a huge Pop music star who revolutionized the 2000s. LaVar seems to be pointing out how, like MJ was the star of the show, Melo should be that guy for the Hornets.

The problem is, LaMelo hasn’t yet established himself as one of the game’s great talents. While his skill set is certainly impressive, he has got a good ways to go before he can be compared to somebody as impactful as Michael Jackson.

But we’ll see how it all plays out in the end.
