NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Could Pursue DeMar DeRozan And Kyle Lowry In 2021 Free Agency

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry were an iconic player duo in the NBA, both playing for the Toronto Raptors until DeMar Derozan was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. It’s always fun to think about whether some duos could reunite, and it seems like there could potentially be an opportunity for that to happen this upcoming offseason.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report has recently posted an article that features a free agency “big board” for each team, detailing the best targets for each franchise in free agency. While DeRozan and Lowry won’t be reuniting in Toronto, Swartz suggested that they could be good targets for the Miami Heat. If the duo ends up going to Miami, that would create a superteam, as the Miami Heat already have two All-Stars on the roster. Here is what Swartz had to say.

Not trading for Lowry at the deadline could be a blessing in disguise, especially if the Heat can sign the veteran point guard during the offseason without giving up any assets.

Lowry, 35, is still playing at a high level this season (17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.1 steals) and could greatly improve Miami’s 24th-ranked offense.

DeRozan is another interesting option. He’s an excellent playmaker and scorer who would fit in perfectly on the wing with Jimmy Butler and brings 58 playoff starts worth of experience. Would Lowry and DeRozan each take a major pay cut to team up again?

Kyle Lowry was already targeted by the Miami Heat in trade talks this season, so they could potentially target Lowry again in the upcoming free agency period. If Lowry joins, then it is not a stretch to suggest that DeMar DeRozan could follow, as the two are good friends off the court, as well as prior teammates.

While nothing is concrete yet, a potential Lowry and DeRozan reunion in Miami could make the Miami Heat a contender. DeMar DeRozan is still playing at an All-Star caliber level, and Kyle Lowry was an All-Star just last season. Teaming up with the two current stars on the Miami Heat roster would give them a team that could rival the heavyweights in the Eastern Conference. Going to the Miami Heat would allow the former All-Stars the chance to win a championship, and it seems like that’d be hard for both Lowry and DeRozan to turn down.
