• 50 Cent called out Fredro Starr of Onyx for lying about his group inspiring Michael Jordan’s bald look

• Fredro Starr made the claim in a Vlad TV interview

• Onyx was a rap group featuring Starr, Sonny Seeza, Big DS, and Sticky Fingaz

Michael Jordan is often credited with making being bald cool, inspiring a wave of imitators during his mythical prime in the NBA. Unsurprisingly, other people claim to have inspired Jordan to adopt this look, like rap group Onyx’s founder Fredro Starr. 50 Cent weighed in on Starr’s claims of Jordan copying Onyx’s bald-headed style on Instagram.

“I’m not gonna say anything because I don’t have to. LOL. SMH. WTF is wrong with these guys?”

Starr made the claim in a VladTV interview in February 2023.

“Michael Jordan cut his hair because of us. Michael Jordan cut his hair bald because of Onyx. Do the knowledge, n***a… I know for a fact. What year did Michael Jordan cut his hair bald?”

Onyx has it’s place in pop culture for inspiring many to embrace the bald style given the four members were all bald, but it’s a stretch to say they inspired Michael Jordan.

Jordan went fully bald around 1988, the same year as Onyx formed. But the band exploded in the early ’90s with their single ‘Slam’ and 1993 album ‘Bacdafucup’, so their relevance started after Jordan had embraced the style.

Michael Jordan Allegedly Proclaimed ‘F**k Rap’ At A Party

Michael Jordan is allegedly not the biggest hip-hop fan, as rap legend N.O.R.E. told everyone while discussing how Jordan dissed rappers Redman and Method Man at a Def Jam Christmas Party, going so far as to say ‘f**k rap’.

“Michael Jordan is a hater of hip-hop. He only likes Hov (Jay-Z), that’s it. I have seen him shut Redman down at the Def Jam Christmas party. We were all sitting there ready to speak to Michael Jordan and someone said ‘Yo, Redman and Method Man are here’. He said, ‘f**k rap’. I seen him say that. This isn’t fake, I am on the side there. F**k it, quote me. I think it was Redman and Method Man, I was at the side, so I can directly hear his voice. He was like ‘f**k rap’. It hurt my heart. At the Def Jam Christmas Party. He only spoke to Hov.”

Even if Jordan isn’t the biggest hip-hop fan, rappers are massive fans of his. Many rappers name-drop Jordan in their music, as they’re looking to climb to the top of their profession like Jordan did his.

Jay-Z Explains Why Michael Jordan Is The GOAT

As even N.O.R.E. proclaimed, the only rapper Michael Jordan likes is Jay-Z. As a result, it won’t be a surprise that Jay-Z is firmly in team Jordan when it comes to the GOAT debate. He revealed his stance on the GOAT debate in his autobiography.

“I absolutely love Michael Jordan. His career was a perfectly composed story about will… The thing that distinguished Jordan wasn’t just his talent, but his discipline, his laser-like commitment to excellence. That’s something I always respect. The gift that Jordan had wasn’t just that he was willing to do the work, but he loved doing it. He came into the game as Rookie of the Year and he finished off the last playoff game of his career with a shot that won the Bulls their sixth championship. That’s the kind of consistency that you can get only by adding dead serious discipline to whatever talent you have.”

Jay-Z and LeBron James are also good friends, with James often posting Jay-Z rap lyrics on social media. The rapper name-dropped James in a 2022 verse on DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did’, calling LeBron a ‘Roc boy’, a reference to James being an honorary member of his music label.
