Pau Gasol Reflects On The Loss Of His ‘Brother,’ Kobe Bryant

2 Min Read

Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant shared countless memories on the court together. As one of the best duos in the game, their games complement each other well, but their bond went way beyond the basketball court. They were brothers.

So when Kobe passed away last month, Gasol did not take the news very lightly. In a chat with the Los Angeles Times, Gasol reflected on the loss of Bryant and revealed his reaction when he heard the devastating news.

“I just started crying, it was hard to find words, I couldn’t talk to anyone for days,” Gasol told the LA Times. “The only person I talked to was [Lakers vice president of basketball operations and Bryant’s ex-agent Rob Pelinka].”

Pau describes Kobe as an inspiration to him both on and off the court. It’s clear from Pau’s words that the two shared a very strong bond during their time in L.A., and even well after both had moved on from the franchise. But what they did together on the Lakers will never be forgotten.

They won back-to-back NBA Championships and found rare success in the NBA as one of the best duos.

While the world lost an icon, legend, and role-model, Pau lost a friend and brother. That couldn’t have been easy for him.
