• Anthony Edwards praised Austin Reaves at the 2023 FIBA World Cup

• Edwards called Reaves a ‘real hooper’ and complimented the impact the Lakers guard has had on the team

• Team USA will play their second game against Greece tomorrow morning

Anthony Edwards has already broken out as Team USA’s primary scoring option at the FIBA World Cup. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of fantastic players behind him that could perform a similar role. The bench-scoring solution for Team USA has been Austin Reaves, who had praise heaped onto him by Edwards.

“Austin plays great every night, there’s nothing new. He’s a hooper, man, there’s nothing surprising.”

Edwards scored 14 points in his World Cup debut, while Reaves gave Team USA 12 off the bench in his debut. They put these numbers up in a comfortable 99-72 win over New Zealand, where the team was led by an all-around dominant performance by reigning Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero.

Team USA Wants To Bring Home Gold

Team USA has no aim except to get a Gold medal home this summer. They are the prohibitive favorites in the tournament despite fielding a team with no international experience. However, Steve Kerr has orchestrated this lineup in a way that they will likely rise to the top regardless of the opposition.

With another win tomorrow over Greece, Team USA can seal their spot in the second round. Considering Greece is without their best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, most expect Team USA to walk away with an easy win.

Edwards has been a two-way lynchpin for Team USA, matching the activity of offensive guards on the perimeter while defending them while also being able to comfortably score past them. Reaves’ creativity under the basket and on drives make him a very unorthodox player, which international teams could continue to struggle with given his proficiency in friendly games and the win over New Zealand.
