  • Team USA still has some things to work out
  • Anthony Edwards wants the team to come out with more energy
  • New Zealand outscored Team USA 14-4 to start their recent group-stage game

There is no doubt that Team USA is the favorite to win the 2023 FIBA World Cup, simply due to the talent level of the roster. The team has many current and former All-Star players, such as Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, and Jaren Jackson Jr., and employs a defense-heavy style of play.

Even though they are talented, Team USA still needs to adjust to the FIBA game, and there are definitely issues the team should address ahead of their next game against Greece on August 28th. In fact, Anthony Edwards pointed to one of them, claiming that the team needs to come out with more energy against Greece than they did against New Zealand.

“We just came out lackadaisical,” Edwards said, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “You got to come out with a little more energy and ready to go.”

It is definitely easy to see what Anthony Edwards is talking about. New Zealand outscored Team USA 14-4 to start the game, and it is clear that another team might be able to punish such a slow start.

Anthony Edwards finished the first game against New Zealand with 14 points and 7 rebounds, and many consider him to be the best player on this iteration of Team USA. Hopefully, we see him lead them to a gold medal.

Anthony Edwards Was Inspired By Legends Such As Michael Jordan And Kobe Bryant

There is no doubt that Team USA has a history of legends suiting up for the squad. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James all participated in the Olympics previously. Recently, Anthony Edwards revealed that Kobe Bryant and other legends inspired his Team USA journey.

“I just wanted to play in it because Kobe (Bryant) played in it,” Anthony Edwards said. “Because Michael Jordan played in it. Vince Carter, when he jumped over buddy, he almost punched Kevin Garnett in the face after he jumped over him.”

During the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Anthony Edwards will have a chance to make a name for himself just like other legends have done in the past. It is clear that he is the face of the team right now, and we’ll see just how well he will play for the rest of the tournament.
