  • Anthony Edwards is fast becoming the face of Team USA ahead of the FIBA World Cup
  • The Timberwolves star opened up on why he was inspired to suit up for Team USA
  • He named Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Vince Carter among the players that made him want to do it too

Anthony Edwards just settled the debate about whether the biggest NBA superstars should play for Team USA or not. He was asked about why he decided to suit up for the national team, and his answer was extremely simple.

“I just wanted to play in it because Kobe (Bryant) played in it,” Anthony Edwards said. “Because Michael Jordan played in it. Vince Carter, when he jumped over buddy, he almost punched Kevin Garnett in the face after he jumped over him.

“Ordered Kobe 1s when Kobe was talking Spanish to Luis Scola. And Bron was like, ‘Chill Kob.’ Those are the best players, so you gotta do what they do.”

Since the 1992 Dream Team, the Team USA roster, especially at the Olympics has nearly always had the biggest NBA superstars. When that didn’t happen in 2004, the Redeem Team came together to lead the nation back to basketball glory.

Anthony Edwards is on a roster that many don’t expect much from, but if he wants to be like those players, then that is not the team’s mentality. His quote should be enough to excite any fan of the game to watch Team USA at the FIBA World Cup.

Anthony Edwards Has His Sights Set On Being Like The GOAT

At 22 years of age, Anthony Edwards is an All-Star averaging 24.6 points per game in the NBA, the leader of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the main man on Team USA.

While that might be enough for some, and they may rest on their laurels, this isn’t true for Edwards. He has admitted that the only man whose legacy he is chasing is none other than the GOAT, Michael Jordan

“I’m chasing my boy M.J., for sure,” Edwards said via Star Tribune. “It’ll be hard, but I’m chasing him.”

Anthony Edwards has an exciting career ahead of him, and this World Cup could prove to be the launchpad that takes him to the next level. The Minnesota Timberwolves man is going to be a menace for years to come.
