  • Austin Reaves had quite the hype during Team USA’s clash against New Zealand
  • Reaves had 12 points to show for in USA’s dominant win
  • Anthony Edwards hyped up Reaves further after the win

Anthony Edwards and Austin Reaves shared an awesome and wholesome moment after helping Team USA open their 2023 FIBA World Cup campaign by notching up a dominant 99-72 win.

Soon after the game, the duo walked back to the tunnel when fans chanted “You’re him” to Reaves, to which Edwards responded with the same chant, proving to be the ultimate hypeman for the Los Angeles Lakers star.

Clearly, this shows great camaraderie between the players in the team, despite the intense rivalry on an NBA court. Both Edwards and Reaves played their part in the USA’s win.

Edwards had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Reaves contributed with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 6 assists, despite the team’s slow start. The leader though, was Paolo Banchero with 21 points as Team USA coasted to a comprehensive win.

The chant for Reaves comes on the back of his adrenaline-pumped “I’m Him” celebration during the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies. It was his stellar performance in Game 1 that saw the Lakers home as he finished with 23 points on the night, including a self-made 9-0 run.

And Edwards knew that — ensuring that he cheered for his teammate as well by echoing the fans’ sentiments. This surely is a feel-good moment.

Austin Reaves Has Been Impressive For Team USA Leading Up To The 2023 World Cup Games

As one of the potential-filled players on the Team USA roster, Austin Reaves has left the basketball world stumped with his brilliance on the floor. It’s safe to say that he is putting the world on notice.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst: “A player that I had several people say has really impressed them and been, like, much better than they were expecting has been Austin Reaves.”

His impact for the Lakers was clearly seen as well, averaging 13 points, 3.4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game on 52% shooting. Reaves was the third star for LA and proved it in the postseason making massive contributions on the offensive end.

In his first game for Team USA, Reaves showcased his potential and will be looked at as a key part of the team’s gold medal run. Only time will tell if he can live up to the hype.
