- Derek Fisher spoke about James Harden’s fit with the Los Angeles Clippers
- Harden is more durable than Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, claimed Fisher
- Derek Fisher did note that it was a “tough call” on a Harden trade to the Clippers
Guard James Harden officially asked for a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers after accepting his $35.6 million player option with the team. It is unclear where he will end up, but he does have a preferred destination.
Previous reports indicated that James Harden wants to join the Los Angeles Clippers. Derek Fisher recently spoke out about Harden’s trade request to the Los Angeles Clippers, noting that Harden has been more available than stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
“Yeah, I mean I’m really sensitive Ty Lue’s situation there,” Fisher said per Farbod Esnaashari of Sports Illustrated. “Like as a coach, I’m sure he wants to put a team of guys together that he feels like are gonna be available and that he can go out and coach and help him win, whether it would be a better fit or not – James has been more available than Kawhi and Paul, regardless of how you feel about James’s game. So to some degree, it may work better, even if when healthy Paul and Kawhi are clearly two of the best players, and top 10 players in the league. It’s a really tough call, but those are the calls that you get paid to make at that level. And, you know, Lawrence Frank does a great job there. I mean, they have a great group with the Clippers as well, so they’ll figure it out.”
It remains to be seen if James Harden will actually end up on the Los Angeles Clippers in the future. The team has reportedly been “unserious” in their trade talks for the guard, and things might drag on into the season.
This past season, James Harden averaged 21.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 10.7 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He can definitely give the Clippers a new dynamic, and perhaps they can win a championship with his addition.
James Harden Is Still One Of The Best Players In The League
Though James Harden isn’t the player he once was, it is clear that he is still someone that is elite at the point guard position. He should be perfect on the Los Angeles Clippers as a No. 3 scoring option.
There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Clippers will become a better team with James Harden’s addition. However, the key is the Clippers paying the right amount in a trade, as he is on an expiring deal and isn’t necessarily a top-tier superstar any longer.
