• Jordan Poole saw his tenure as a Golden State Warrior end this offseason with a trade to the Washington Wizards
• The Warriors elected to have Chris Paul’s maturity and experience instead of Poole
• Poole’s disastrous performances in the playoffs ultimately swung the decision for the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors made a big move this summer that could make or break the future of the team. They sent out 23-year-old Jordan Poole along with draft picks to pick up 38-year-old Chris Paul on an expiring contract.
Poole was salary-dumped as the Warriors were okay with attaching assets to him to pick up CP3, a player the Wizards were likely to waive. A recent report suggests that Poole’s playoff failures sealed his future and not his poor relationships on the team.
“Poole was awful in the playoffs. I don’t think all this stuff about everyone hating him, that kind of garbage is not fair. It was performance with him. He did not perform when it mattered, again, and that made it pretty easy to make the case to trade him and create a little more flexibility to keep Klay [Klay Thomspon] and Draymond [Green]. The Chris Paul thing is a nice experiment they can try for a year, basically. But it’s going to be about keeping Klay.”
Jordan Poole averaged 10.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in the playoffs, a long way down from his crucial performances in the Warriors’ 2022 title win. His on-court performances and reported souring of relationships with Draymond Green and Steve Kerr ended his Warriors tenure with a whopping 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists averages in the final playoff series he played for them.
Jordan Poole Hoping For A Career Revival In Washington
There are very few things to get excited about when you’re unceremoniously dumped from the best franchise of the last decade to one of the worst, but Poole definitely has a silver lining to smile about. The Wizards are in year one of a rebuild and will give Poole carte-blanche on offense, given he’s their best scoring option on the roster.
He can finally be unleashed as a primary option instead of sharing the ball, as he did with Stephen Curry. If he could average 20 points like that, he likely will push for a nod at Most Improved Player and drag the Wizards to the play-in tournament, at least with Kyle Kuzma as his co-star.
