During the 1990s, the Chicago Bulls dominated the NBA. Led by Michael Jordan, the Bulls won six NBA Championships. However, the Bulls dynasty had a phenomenal supporting cast as well.
Players like Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Steve Kerr played a crucial role in the team’s success. Speaking of Rodman, he joined the team in 1995 and was the defensive anchor of the team during their second three-peat era. He had great chemistry on the court, but according to the Worm himself, he didn’t have any relationship with Jordan and Pippen off the court.
“Well, I didn’t think it was important,” Rodman said in a 2011 interview with Graham Bensinger. “I thought it was important for me to go there and win. Me and Scottie, and Michael, never had a conversation in three years in Chicago. Only time we had a conversation is on the court. That was it.
“And nobody believes that. I said well, only people I had a conversation with was probably Jud Buechler, Randy Brown, Steve Kerr, and Luc Longley, and other players. But me, Michael, and Scottie, we never had conversation at all, off the court.”
Rodman focused on winning more than anything during his time with the Bulls. In his three-year stint with the team, Rodman averaged 5.2 PPG, 15.3 RPG, and 2.8 APG. He led the league in rebounding throughout his time with the Bulls.
Despite not having any conversation with Jordan and Pippen, Rodman still had a great working relationship with the duo. The three superstars used to make crazy bets every day about who would have the least body fat.
Apart from that, Jordan and Pippen used to protect Rodman when required. It feels as if the superstar trio didn’t even need an off-court relationship to succeed at their jobs.
Dennis Rodman Was A Professional On The Court
There are many wild off-court stories about Dennis Rodman. He once went to Las Vegas in the middle of a season to vacation with Carmen Electra. Rodman skipped practice after Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals vs. the Utah Jazz to wrestle with Hulk Hogan.
All things considered, Rodman certainly had a wild personality off the court. However, according to Scottie Pippen, the Worm was a professional when he stepped on the court.
“Dennis was living two different lives we also understood that. You know, he was so professional out on the basketball court. We knew Dennis stayed out till 5:00 AM. Someone would tell us like Dennis just got back in from Vegas.”
The Bulls understood Rodman’s crazy personality and allowed him to get short breathers during his time with the organization. It’s probably one of the biggest reasons why Rodman had a successful stint with the team.
