Superstar Damian Lillard has requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, but thus far, he is still on the franchise. His preferred destination is the Miami Heat, but many believe the team doesn’t have the assets to get things done.
There have been many reports that have suggested Damian Lillard is dead-set on the Heat, and his agent has even been calling teams and telling them not to trade for him. A recent report from Mark Medina of Sportsnaut revealed that Damian Lillard would not report to play for any other team but the Heat if he was traded there.
“‘He just wouldn’t go,’ a person familiar with Lillard’s thinking told Mark Medina of Sportsnaut. ‘He just wouldn’t report.'”
“I don’t think the other team would trade for him knowing that he doesn’t want to be there,” the person familiar with Lillard’s thinking told Sportsnaut. “He’s a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer so they should respect his wishes.”
It remains to be seen if Damian Lillard will end up getting traded to the Miami Heat. Generally, superstars get to go to the destinations of their choice, and it seems as though it is only a matter of time before Lillard will don a Heat jersey.
Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 7.3 APG during the 2022-23 regular season. There is no doubt that he can be a difference-maker for the Heat, and hopefully, they land him.
Damian Lillard Wants To Leave The Portland Trail Blazers Because The Team Hasn’t Made An Effort To Be Competitive
Many have thought that Damian Lillard should request a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers a long time ago. The reason he has done it this summer is that the team has failed to build a competitive roster around him.
“When the Blazers had a quiet first night of free agency, re-signing forward Jerami Grant on a five-year, $160 million deal but failing to add any new players, that was the unofficial end. Then after a late-night phone conversation with Blazers coach Chauncey Billups in which they discussed the unfortunate state of affairs, Lillard made up his mind: It was time to leave Portland for Miami.”
Hopefully, we do see Damian Lillard land on a contender in the future. He definitely deserves a chance to compete at the highest level, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
