Victor Wembanyama is already feeling what NBA stardom feels like, as going through his first scandal before even stepping onto the court for his Summer League debut.
Wembanyama’s head of security allegedly backhanded pop sensation Britney Spears in the face as she tried to get a picture taken with Wemby. Spears aired her grievances on social media, and Wemby has finally responded to the same.
“What happened last night, I see the news, obviously. Something did happen when I was walking with some security of the team to a restaurant. We were in the hall. there were a lot of people, so they were calling me, obviously. There was one person who was calling me, but my security told me don’t stop because it was going to make a crowd, so I couldn’t stop. That person was calling me, ‘Sir, sir’, and that person grabbed me from behind. I didn’t see what happened because I was walking straight and they told me don’t stop, but that person grabbed me from behind, not on my shoulder. So I just know the security push her away. I don’t know with how much force, but security pushed her away and I didn’t stop to look, kept walking, and enjoyed a nice dinner.”

Wembanyama is expected to make his Summer League debut tomorrow, facing off against the Charlotte Hornets and No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller. This was supposed to be an exciting weekend for Wemby, but the actions of the security staff around him have put a damper on it.
Victor Wembanyama Already Being Treated Like A Superstar
The treatment Wembanyama received the entirety of last season and now after being drafted is quite incredible. He’s come into the league as a superstar, purely based on the hype of what he can be on the floor. Given his status right now, he has to protect himself and have security with him in public places.
It’s rare when tickets to a Summer League game are as expensive as a regular NBA game, but watching a prospect like Wembanyama debut is extremely rare in itself. Hopefully, he can move past this debacle with Britney Spears and prove to the world in his debut that all the hype was warranted.
