The Los Angeles Lakers have had a terrific start to free agency in 2023. They have made solid acquisitions like Gabe Vincent while also fulfilling their top priority, re-signing Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves.
Bill Simmons has been impressed by what the Lakers have done so far but while praising them for their moves, he also took the opportunity to troll them.
“This is a great price. The Los Angeles Lakers won the week. They have a real chance to get their 13th title now.”

The Lakers have won 17 championships, of course, but five of those came when the franchise was in Minneapolis. For the longest time, the top brass for the current Lakers never really gave the Minneapolis era the recognition it deserved, but they did claim those titles as their own.
None of the Minneapolis players had their jerseys retired, and all those five championships were represented with just one banner at the arena. That finally changed last year, with George Mikan getting his jersey retired and those five titles getting their individual banners.
Simmons, though, still doesn’t think the Lakers should claim those titles, as they were won in a completely different location. His ties to the Boston Celtics might have something to do with that, though, with both franchises now tied on 17 championships.
The Lakers Do Indeed Have A Shot At Winning The 2024 NBA Championship
Kendrick Perkins had also claimed that the Lakers are winning this free agency after the first day, and at this point, they are certainly in the running for that crown. With the exception of Dennis Schroder, they have managed to bring back all their key pieces from the run to the Western Conference Finals this past season.
Schroder’s absence will be filled by Vincent, and one could argue he is a better fit with the team too, thanks to his shooting. Taurean Prince was another solid addition, and he gives the Lakers some size that they desperately needed on the wing.
This team is looking pretty good on paper at the moment, and unless the injury bug strikes, you can see them making another deep playoff run.
