The Los Angeles Lakers have pretty much answered every question they had for the 2023 NBA free agency after securing the signing of their top target this offseason, Austin Reaves.

After weeks full of speculation and rumors on his future, with the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs mentioned as potential landing spots for him, Reaves is expected to re-sign with the Lakers for the next four years, according to Shams Charania.

“RFA Austin Reaves has agreed to return to the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Agents Aaron Reilly and Reggie Berry of AMR Agency negotiated the new deal to keep Reaves in L.A. long term.”

This was a key signing for the Lakers given Reaves’ reputation around the league and knowing that a couple of things would pay him a lot. They were ready to match any $100 million offer the player would get, but that wasn’t necessary.

The Lakers have been very active in free agency, and this will be their seventh move in the open market. Taurean Prince, Gabe Vincent, Cam Redish and Jaxson Hayes are going to Los Angeles, while Rui Hachimura and D’Angelo Russell signed new deals with the team before Reaves.

Reaves Had More Suitors In Free Agency

The young guard was a man in demand leading up to free agency. As stated above, the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs reportedly had him on their radar. Fortunately for Lakers Nation, Reaves is staying put, trying to improve what the Lakers did last season.

This is a big deal for them, as Reaves is considered a key piece for their future. He showed his heart and bravery during the playoffs, taking over games when the ball was heavy. Reaves averaged 13.0 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 64 games last campaign.
