Forward Rui Hachimura was one of the Los Angeles Lakers’ acquisitions before the trade deadline, with the team sending out Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks to get him.

Though Hachimura was a free agent this summer, it seems as though the team has elected to retain him. Shams Charania has revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed him on a three-year, $51 million deal.

“RFA Rui Hachimura has agreed to a three-year, $51 million deal to return to the Lakers, sources tell The Athletic and Stadium.”

There is no doubt that this is a good deal for the Los Angeles Lakers. Rui Hachimura is a player that can play next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and guard multiple positions on the court due to his size and athleticism, being 6’8 with a 7’2 wingspan. He was particularly elite in the playoffs, and Hachimura was a key part of the Lakers’ run to the Western Conference Finals. Getting Hachimura back helps the Lakers maintain a sense of continuity, as well as putting another quality role player alongside their superstars.

During the 2022-23 playoffs, Rui Hachimura averaged 12.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 0.6 APG while shooting 55.7% from the field and 48.7% from the 3PT range. He was one of the outstanding performers for the team in the postseason, and it’ll be interesting to see what he looks like next season.
