The Miami Heat have lost a couple of important pieces today, but they’re still keeping some players that helped them reach the 2023 NBA Finals.
Kevin Love was expected to find a new team this offseason but the Heat couldn’t afford to lose another asset in free agency. According to Tim Reynolds of AP, the big man is staying with the Heat on a two-year deal.
“Kevin Love will sign a 2-year deal, with the second year at his option, source tells AP.”

Love played 21 games with the Heat this past season after being traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 7.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per outing. He didn’t play a big role in the Heat’s Finals run, but his contributions helped the squad beat rival after rival until they land in the championship series.
The Heat have already lost Gabe Vincent in free agency and re-signed Josh Richardson. Retaining Love is a good move for the future, as they intend to run it back with as many pieces as possible from the 2023 roster.
Kevin Love Was Linked With Lakers And Suns Ahead Of Free Agency
Love was a sought-after player in the open market, and he reportedly was interested in signing with the Los Angeles Lakers or Phoenix Suns. Besides the two West powerhouses, the Milwaukee Bucks were mentioned as a potential landing spot for the veteran.
An NBA champion, Love has a lot of experience to bring to the Heat still. He’s been around for a while and his knowledge of the game will be valuable for the Heat. Miami still has some moves to make if they want to get over the hump and win a championship next season.
Damian Lillard remains on their radar, but it’s still too early to tell if they will land the point guard or will miss out on another big opportunity.
