The Golden State Warriors are heading into a very important summer where they have to make a decision on their two timelines, either sacrificing the old to give the younger players more shine or moving the young players to continue focusing on winning titles in the Stephen Curry era.
Many have assumed that Jordan Poole would be on the move this summer, but new Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has long-term plans for the 24-year-old guard.
“We wanna have those guys here, Jordan (Poole) especially, with his contract extension. We plan to have him here for four more years at least and Jonathan (Kuminga), he’s shown good progression and growth in his two years here… Both those guys are really good young players.”

Dunleavy Jr. also spoke about the need to get Jonathan Kuminga more minutes, implying the squad doesn’t plan on getting rid of its young players this summer.
Running the same squad back for one more year doesn’t bode well for a squad that was a second-round exit, so we have to see whether MDJ is protecting his players in the media while looking for possible offers behind the scenes.
Have We Seen The Last Of Jordan Poole On The Warriors?
Poole was integral to their 2022 championship run but played a big part in the playoff disappointment in 2023. His regular season averages of 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists dropped when matched up in the second round against the Lakers to 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, as Golden State crashed out in six games despite having home-court advantage.
Even though people may be souring on Poole, the Warriors can easily try to get a young team to take Poole due to his scoring ability and youth. The contract matches up with that of veterans around the league, so the Warriors could cash in and find upgrades for next season.
With Draymond Green opting out of his contract, we may first need to wait and see whether he extends with Golden State or not. If he returns, the likelihood of Poole getting moved increases as multiple people from the squad have admitted Green and Poole’s punch incident cast a dark cloud over the team for the entire year.
