The Los Angeles Lakers have some questions to answer this offseason, including who will be their starting point guard next season. While the Kyrie Irving rumors keep coming, the Purple and Gold keep working on retaining their most valuable players.

Keeping Austin Reaves is a top priority for the Lakers this offseason, and they will do anything in their hands to retain the young player on the roster.

“The Lakers are going to match any contract offer sheet that he signs up to that $100 million,” Jovan Buha of The Athletic said on the HoopsHype podcast. “The Lakers view him as the third-best player on this team if you look at the regular season and postseason he had. He stepped up big time and was basically an 18-5-5 guy with near 50-40-90 shooting splits as a starter for them. There were several factors as to why the Lakers made that second half run, but chief among them — and maybe the biggest factor overall — was Reaves’ ascension.”

Reaves has taken big steps in the past two seasons, and the Lakers view him as a future star. He had a solid playoff run, becoming a key piece for the Lakers, helping them against the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors.

Even when he didn’t have the best games, Reaves never hesitated to ask for the ball, to attack his rivals and show that he was ready for whatever. He showed more things than the stat sheet, including leadership and accountability, so the team knows he’s a very valuable player.

Los Angeles Lakers Plan To Keep Reaves And Rui Hachimura On The Roster This Summer

The Lakers have big plans regarding Reaves and Rui Hachimura. The guard was rumored to be getting more than $50 million offers this offseason, which could be a big problem for the Lakers. Hachimura is also a sought-after player around the league, but the Purple and Gold would love to have him back next season.

This summer will be crucial for the Lakers. They can lose LeBron James if he doesn’t like their moves, as well as other players who helped them reach the Western Conference Finals this season.
