Portland Trail Blazers GM Says They Could Trade No. 3 Overall Pick To Surround Damian Lillard With Talent

Damian Lillard could get the help he's been asking for now that the Trail Blazers got the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ hopes to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft grew as the lottery developed, and after landing the No. 3 overall selection, things didn’t look that bad for them.

They can land a solid prospect with that pic, but it’s clear that they are going in a different direction, and this pick might be used to bring more talent to Moda Center. They want to compete and if they need to get rid of this pick, the team won’t hesitate.

“We’re a team that’s trying to win and trying to maximize Damian’s timeline. This was an important night for us,” Portland general manager Joe Cronin told Yahoo Sports. “Front offices around the league think highly of this draft, so you would think that a lot of teams that were sitting [on stage] tonight will be getting a lot of calls from teams trying to move up and maneuver.”

This is a good approach, knowing that the team wants to compete this season and drift away from the middle of the back and the lower ties in the league. It’s about time for the Blazers to get over the hump and challenge the top teams in the Western Conference.

They’ve tried in different ways and nothing has happened. Now, they could find a solution in the No. 3 overall pick, but it remains to be seen which team will be willing to do business with them.

Damian Lillard Made It Clear He Doesn’t Want To Keep Rebuilding

After yet another disappointing season, Damian Lillard gave his team some sort of ultimatum ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season. The star point guard made it clear he wants to win in Portland, but if the conditions aren’t suitable, he’ll have to make a decision on his future.

It seems like this could be the last dance for Lillard and his team. If they fail to assemble a solid squad, then the situation will get worse for them and clearer for Lillard.
