Victor Wembanyama is already keen on winning a championship with the San Antonio Spurs.

He was the first-overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft and San Antonio won the lottery, making it all but clear that the teen, labeled as a generational superstar will now suit up for the Spurs in the upcoming season.

“My heart’s beating. I got everyone I love around me,” Wembanyama told Brian Windhorst. “It’s really a special moment I’m gonna remember for the rest of my life. … I’m gonna make everything to win as many games as possible. I’m trying to win a ring ASAP, so be ready.”

Wembanyama spent the past season with Metropolitans 92 in the French league and averaged 21.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.1 blocks.

He is widely expected to be picked up by the Spurs this season and has made his intentions clear that he and a young Spurs team that has Keldon Johnson, Tre Jones, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan will gun for a championship.

Victor Wembanyama Believes The Spurs And France Have A Special Connection

Soon after the Spurs won the lottery that will see them acquire Wembanyama’s services, the center spoke about how the franchise and France share a special connection.

“There’s a special relation between France and the Spurs because of Tony (Parker) of course and also Boris (Diaw),” Wembanyama said. “I know half of the country, maybe if not the whole country wanted the Spurs to have the first pick so I was looking at everyone and everyone was happy so I was too.”

After trading Kawhi Leonard in 2018 to the Toronto Raptors, the Spurs have been on a downward run. They haven’t won a playoff series in six seasons, but with Wembanyama among their ranks now though, the future looks promising.
