It’s safe to say that the Los Angeles Lakers have a tough decision to make regarding Austin Reaves, whose emergence has been pivotal for the team this season.

With a contract extension looming in the summer, reports have suggested that Reaces could hit the jackpot with other teams expected to pay more than what LA can offer. But according to Kevin Garnett, the 24-year-old would be dumb if he left the Lakers for more money.

“Reaves, yeah, Him. Mr. Him. He should get a nice contract,” Garnett said on KG Certified. “If I were him, I wouldn’t leave the Lakers,” Garnett said. “Even though he’s gonna get some bigger offers. He’s gonna go get some bread thrown at him.”

To which Matt Barnes replied: “He already said it’s not about the Lakers. He’s gonna get the money.” This seemingly didn’t sit well with Garnett. “Aw, he’s dumb. He’s dumb, bro.”

With the other teams reportedly willing to offer him up to a 4-year, $80 million deal, the Lakers will fall shorthanded if they can only dole out $50 million. And the difference of 30 million is too much an amount to not be considered. So there is every chance that Reaves may not be a Laker next season.

Rob Pelinka Says There Is “Mutual Desire” Between The Front Office And Austin Reaves To Ink A Contract

Earlier this month, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka sparked optimism when he said there was a mutual desire between the franchise and Reaves to sign a deal.

“There’s a mutual desire,” Pelinka said, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Those are the type of guys you want in your program – that it’s a team first, it’s sacrifice everything to win a game, competition above individual stats. That’s kind of what the DNA — especially for our young guys — that we wanted to represent. And he’s an example of that.”

For his part, the guard has stated that he wants to be a Laker for his entire career. However, he also made it clear earlier though, that the league is a business at the end of the day and that he wants to take in as much money as he possibly can.

Only time will tell if the Lakers can manage to get Reaves to stay in the purple and gold for the next season.
