There is probably no one in this world who Shaquille O’Neal loves and respects more than his mother, Lucille.

Shaq has always ensured he took great care of his parents and when he was buying a house for her a few years back, he was shocked by a lady asking for his credit score.

“So, mother, go pick a house, she’s still wondering – my old-school mom, ‘Baby, that’s too much!’ I’m like, ‘You want it?’ It feels good to just tell her, ‘Yeah, give me that.’ Without no checking credit or none of that,” O’Neal said. “The lady’s like, ‘I need to check your credit.’ I was like, ‘I beg your pardon? Excuse me?’ My mom was like, ‘Baby don’t do that.’ I was like, ‘Hold on mama, she disrespected me. Hey lady, I want this house, and I want the 10-day closing right now.'”

It would be one thing if this incident occurred when O’Neal had just gotten into the NBA, but he revealed this was just a few years back. It seems bizarre that someone would ask O’Neal, who earned over $286 million in salaries during his time in the NBA, for his credit score. Maybe she really had no idea who Shaq is, but that still seems so hard to comprehend, as he is one of the most recognizable individuals in the whole world.

Shaquille O’Neal’s Love For His Mother

O’Neal had said earlier in this segment that he never wanted to be rich, but he just wanted to buy whatever his mother wanted, just like this house. He once shared that he gave her $400,000 as thanks for all the hard work she had put in over the years to raise him.

She has also been a great influence on him as she and Shaq’s stepfather taught him the value of giving back and helping those in need. He has routinely gone out of his way to do that over time and she would be quite proud of that. On the occasions that he flaunts his wealth, she makes sure to keep him in check as well.
