Winning a championship is the ultimate goal of every NBA player. Some never make it to the mountaintop, but some may face the unique challenge of being traded or cut by a team before they went on to win a title.

DeMarcus Cousins was on FanDuelTV and revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers sent him a championship ring for the role he played in their 2020 title win, despite being released in February of that season.

“I did receive my ring from the Lakers. Extremely grateful for it.”

Cousins was supposed to rehabilitate his image after an injury-ridden season with Golden State in 2020 with the Lakers but ended up tearing his ACL in a preseason pickup game. He never played for the Lakers and was waived to make room for Markieff Morris, who played a role in the title win during the playoffs.

Boogie reportedly played a role in the locker room even when he was injured through his leadership, but that wasn’t enough for the Lakers to keep him. He’s currently playing in Puerto Rico after spending the last few seasons as a journeyman in the NBA.

Russell Westbrook And Patrick Beverley Expect Their Rings If Lakers Win

The reason Cousins had to address whether he got a ring in 2020 was because of a recent statement from Patrick Beverley, where he said he and Russell Westbrook expect to get championship rings if the Lakers go all the way this season. A report has confirmed that Russ and Bev will be getting rings after the virality of PatBev’s clip.

Cousins commented on the same, saying they deserve to get rings for what they brought to the team before the trade.

“Hell yeah, why not? They were part of the struggle at one point too, they played a part in winning games at one point too. Why not?”

Before anybody can get their Lakers championship rings, the Lakers need to actually win the title. They’re currently 3-1 up on the Golden State Warriors in the second round but will be wary of avoiding an upset.
