Game 1 between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors did not disappoint, as the two sides served up a thriller.
While all that great action was unfolding, there was one rather interesting incident where LeBron James followed Stephen Curry all the way to the Warriors’ bench. After the game, Curry revealed James’ hilarious reason for following him.
“He was just joking around about having to guard me all the way till I got to the bench,” Curry said.

LeBron wanted to make sure he tailed Curry right until he was out of the game. While James was following Curry in this instance, the Lakers had Jarred Vanderbilt on him for much of the game and he did a pretty good job. Curry missed some open looks, but Vanderbilt defended him very well, for the most part, as he scored 24 points on just 10-24 shooting from the field.
Prior to this series, Lakers fans believed that Vanderbilt could slow down Curry and he certainly did in Game 1. It was a big reason why the Lakers ended up winning 117-112 and they have now snatched home-court advantage in this series.
The Warriors Might Be In Deep Trouble
While much was made of the Warriors’ dominance at home during the regular season, they have now lost their last two home games in these playoffs. They desperately need to avoid falling down 0-2 and it might take a herculean effort from Curry, like in Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings, to level up this series.
The defining battle of this series is going to be the three-point shooting for the Warriors vs. the dominance in the paint for the Lakers. The Warriors connected on 21 three-pointers as compared to just six for the Lakers in Game 1, but L.A. was up 54-28 in terms of points in the paint. They also had a huge advantage in free throws because of it and that trend will continue the rest of the way. It seems a given at this point that Golden State will have to keep shooting lights-out from three, or else they will lose this series.
