Former NBA big man DeMarcus Cousins will now ply his trade for the Guaynabo Mets in Puerto Rico’s National Superior Basketball (BSN).

The news was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins is signing with the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League, sources tell ESPN,” the insider tweeted. “Cousins, 32, will play this spring there to continue to try and find a pathway back to the NBA.”

Cousins is an NBA veteran playing for seven teams in his 13 seasons. But the ongoing season failed to see any takers. The 32-year-old has played 654 games averaging 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds. He was one of the league’s most versatile big between 2015-17, but injuries derailed his career.

He last played the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season averaging 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. Most recently, he worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers this season but didn’t get an offer to sign with the team.

DeMarcus Cousins Believes He Is The Third-Best Center In The NBA Right Now

While injuries and inconsistency may have dented his career, Cousins wasn’t short of faith in his abilities and made a bold claim about the same.

Speaking to Kevin Garnett on KG Certified, he dished out quite the statement: “As of right now, I’m the third-best center in the NBA.”

The four-time All-Star also shed light on how he never understood how he didn’t find any suitors earlier this year on SiriusXM.

“That’s honestly my biggest issue… You never really get an honest answer… I look at myself first and what I can do to better myself. I’ve asked many questions, I’ve reached out to former teams…I can never really get the raw honest truth. I would love to get a real answer.”

All things considered, Cousins will now be happy to suit up and get back on the floor again, even if it’s not the NBA. He joins the likes of veterans Dwight Howard and Hassan Whiteside to play overseason.

Perhaps, a fruitful season with the Mets might see Cousins back in NBA reckoning again.
