Center DeMarcus Cousins was once a top-tier All-Star in the NBA, being well-known for combining post-play and perimeter shooting. He was an elite offensive force when healthy, though injuries have caused his decline.

With that being said, DeMarcus Cousins still has the ability to be a solid backup center in the NBA. However, he has not gotten that opportunity this season. Recently Cousins claimed that he wants to get a real answer about why he isn’t in the league.

“That’s honestly my biggest issue… You never really get an honest answer… I look at myself first, and what I can do to better myself. I’ve asked many questions, I’ve reached out to former teams…I can never really get the raw honest truth. I would love to get a real answer.”

There is no doubt that sometimes it is unclear as to why a certain player may be out of the league. DeMarcus Cousins certainly deserves a real answer. However, franchises have their reasons for doing what they do, and it’ll be interesting to see if they change their minds about Cousins in the future. He’s definitely one of the best center free agents right now.

During his last season in the league, DeMarcus Cousins averaged 9.0 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 1.5 APG. Though he is clearly not close to being the same player he once was, he is still a serviceable depth option on the veteran minimum.

Warriors GM Bob Myers Revealed DeMarcus Cousins Called Him To Ask About Why He’s Not In The League

In this segment, DeMarcus Cousins reveals that he called former teams about his situation, and it seems as though one of the people he called was Warriors GM, Bob Myers. The explanation Bob Myers provided to Cousins as to why he wasn’t in the NBA was that people were afraid of Cousins’ conduct.

“DeMarcus called me a month ago and he said, ‘Why am I not in the NBA? And I said, ‘You want that answer? … Because people are afraid of how you’re going to act.’ And he’s like ‘Why?’ And I said, ‘Well whatever the reason is, it’s here now.’”

“And I like DeMarcus. You guys may know him. He’s just, I can’t blame him for him because of all he’s been through.”

People can definitely change, and some of the things that DeMarcus Cousins did in the past don’t define him now. Hopefully, Cousins can get a spot on a team at some point in the future.
