Every player or coach that steps onto the basketball court eventually hopes to immortalize their contributions to the game. Some do it by winning championships, but the greatest do it by making it to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 2023 class for the HoF is likely going to be announced this weekend. Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Gregg Popovich, Tony Parker, and Becky Hammon are likely to be elected, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

All of these names are legendary figures in basketball. Wade and Nowitzki are two of the most iconic players of the 2000s, with both players having won a Finals MVP in their career.

Tony Parker is also a former Finals MVP as the point guard of the Spurs’ dynasty, which was coached by HoF-elect, Gregg Popovich. Pau Gasol is a 2-time champion and recently had his jersey retired by the Lakers. Becky Hammon was expected to one day be Popovich’s successor in San Antonio, but she’s coming fresh off a WNBA title win with the Las Vegas Aces and is one of the greatest WNBA players of all time.

One Of The Best Classes Of Recent Memory?

This year’s Hall of Fame class is arguably one of the best in recent memory. It’s hard to beat out the class of 2020 which featured Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Garnett making their way into the esteemed Hall of Fame. This year’s eligible candidates list is extremely long.

Wade and Nowitzki are likely locks for induction as two of the best players of their generation. They have always been billed as first-ballot Hall of Famers and it’ll be impossible to pass them up this season. One player between Gasol and Parker could miss out if the player limit remains at 3.

Popovich is likely going to make it in his first time asking by virtue of being one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NBA. Becky Hammon deserves her place in the Hall for her impact on women’s basketball, a legacy she is still shaping as a young head coach in the game.
