Patrick Beverley was the heart and soul of the Los Angeles Clippers for years before the team decided to trade him away before the start of the 2021-22 season.

The former All-Defensive point guard believes his Clippers era should’ve resulted in at least one title, which would’ve come in the 2019-20 season if COVID hadn’t caused the playoffs to be played in the Orlando Bubble.

“We think we would’ve won a championship if it wasn’t for the bubble. But to come back and get to a Conference Finals with a hurt Kawhi – We’ve done a lot of good things here.” (h/t Sports Illustrated)

The Clippers and Lakers didn’t want to be in the bubble and made it clear repeatedly. Despite that, the Lakers still pushed through and won the title. Champions are not just good on the court but are also mentally durable. The Clippers blowing a 3-1 lead in the second round of the 2020 playoffs wasn’t because of the bubble but because of the team folding under pressure in that situation.

Marcus Morris has said the same about the bubble not being legitimate before.

Patrick Beverley’s Time With The Clippers

Even though Patrick Beverley has shown his utility as a floor-raiser on teams like the Chicago Bulls, his contributions were the most significant when he was still on the Clippers. Sadly, the team decided to move on from him after the 2021 playoffs, which saw the team make their deepest postseason run in franchise history, with a Conference Finals elimination.

Beverley spent 4 years playing for the Clippers, averaging 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in those seasons. He tried his best to keep the Clippers motivated, but they ended up moving on from him in the same season when PatBev’s new team in Minnesota eliminated the Clips in the play-in tournament to book a playoff spot and send LAC back home.
