Guard Luka Doncic is one of the premier superstars in the NBA, and he clearly has the talent to be the best player in the world in the future. However, he missed the playoffs this season, and the Dallas Mavericks don’t look like they’re close to being championship contenders.

A previous report suggested that Luka Doncic could end up requesting a trade in the future if the Mavericks don’t make the right moves to help him win. However, Luka Doncic ended up denying that the report was accurate, noting that he was “happy” playing for the Mavericks.

“I saw the report. I don’t know who, but somebody said that I was going to request a trade. It was funny because I didn’t know that was true. I didn’t say it. I’m happy here. There’s nothing to worry [about].”

It is clear that there is no trade request imminently coming from Luka Doncic, and the team has some time to build around him. We have seen even the most loyal players request trades because losing gets to them, and hopefully, that won’t be Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

This season, Luka Doncic averaged 32.4 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 6.8 APG for the Dallas Mavericks. He has clearly had an All-NBA-type season, but his individual excellence was not enough for the Mavericks to make the playoffs.

The Dallas Mavericks Are Already Looking At Potential Moves

Due to the urgency with which they need to build around Luka Doncic, it seems as though the Dallas Mavericks are already eyeing certain moves. A previous report stated that they might move for Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton if Kyrie Irving ends up staying with the team.

“Assuming Irving returns, the Mavericks might have an eye (via trade) on Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton.”

If the Dallas Mavericks were to get Deandre Ayton, they would become an elite team on both ends of the floor. He is a solid rebounder and rim protector, two areas in that the team has been weak this season.

Hopefully, the Dallas Mavericks can figure out a way to build a contender around Luka Doncic. They definitely have the assets to do so, especially if Kyrie Irving stays with the franchise. All Luka Doncic needs is the right support to win a championship, and we’ll see if he can do so in the next few years.
