Jazz guard Collin Sexton returned back from an extended absence this week to face off against LeBron James and the Lakers on Tuesday. He looked solid in his return, dropping 15 points on 50% shooting before he was ruled out again in the very next game.

For most fans, it was nothing more than injury management for Sexon, but Lakers Nation has been in an uproar for what they seemingly believe is some kind of conspiracy against their team.

“Collin Sexton participated in All-Star weekend, then shut it down for the season all the way until 3 games left when the Lakers were on the calendar,” wrote LakersGuru in a Tweet. “He played in the game, and now has been ruled out a day in advance for the following jazz game. My favorite part is that people hate the Lakers so much they will act like they didn’t see this.”

The Lakers Always Get The Best From Their Opponents

Sexton isn’t the only player to seemingly place his injury plans on hold to battle the Lakers, but his status did enough to convince some that players will go out of their way to give it to the Lakeshow.

“It’s a trip I can’t lie I’ve never seen anything like it and it’s not a coincidence,” wrote one Lakers fan.

“That “Colin Sexton (Probable) Sunday vs Lakers” is gonna hit different,” replied another user.

“Sometimes I think some players are trying to audition for the Lakers. lol “

“When we call it out some Lakers fans say ‘it’s weak’ even though we just pointing out the facts,” wrote an angry fan.

One fan had offered his own theory on why the Lakers are circled on everyone’s calendar:

“I believe it’s because of the visibility that comes with games against Lakers, especially with LeBron on the team.”

The Lakers play again against the Jazz in the final game of the regular season, so it will be interesting to see if he suits up for that game or remains out like he has been doing for a while now.

And while Utah’s injury report is not evidence of a grand conspiracy against the Lakers, it does reflect the fact that the Purple and Gold bring exposure to many teams and players. Plus, for the Jazz, it might be extra motivation to knock the NBA’s most prestigious organization.

Regardless, this is something that Lakers fans should be used to by now. Being targetted on a nightly basis is just the territory that comes with being a Laker, and LeBron himself has admitted that opponents are always going to come with a heightened level of intensity against them.
