The Los Angeles Lakers have managed to keep their season alive despite starting 2-10. Thanks to the star duo, and a revamped supporting cast around them, they have looked like a legitimate contender in the months following February’s trade deadline.

Unfortunately, the Lakers are still not out of the woods yet. The margin of error couldn’t be slimmer during this final stretch of games, and injuries continue to be a major concern for a potential playoff run.

“For us, it’s just health,” James said, via The Athletic. “It’s always about health. That’s been, over the last couple of years, that’s been our Achilles’ heel. … If we can maintain our health over the next couple of games and then going into the playoffs, or wherever we’re at, then we’ll be fine.”

Clearly, LeBron still has faith in the Lakers, and it’s probably why he rushed back his return from injury to ensure his team locks in a playoff spot.

“Wherever we end up, that’s where we end up. It’s been like four or five seasons in one for us,” James said. “We don’t have the luxury of saying, ‘This is what we need to do. This is where we’re gonna be.’ We need to still continue to play good basketball. … We’ll see. Wherever we fall, we’ll be ready to go.”

How Far Can The Lakers Go This Summer?

With LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers have a chance against anyone, as they proved in the 2020 bubble when they won the championship under extreme conditions.

This year, they have an arguably even better team with D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Austin Reaves. Now, there’s real talk about L.A. potentially winning it all.

“The Lakers are winning the whole damn thing. LeBron gets ring number five, and Anthony Davis reclaims the respect so many of you have taken from him,” said Nick Wright. “My guy Colin Cowherd was trying to trade him all over the place. Here’s the situation, nobody wants to play them. Since the All-Star break, and LeBron missed some of that time, they’ve been one of the best teams in the entire conference. Second only to the (Sacramento Kings).”

LeBron and AD have missed large chunks of time over the past few years, but there is still hope in what they can accomplish, given good health for the duration of the playoffs.

Let’s hope that this summer will be the one where the Lakers can finally be whole again.
