The Los Angeles Lakers look like a different organization after the trade deadline, making sweeping changes across the roster that has enabled them to go 15-8 since.
They’re within half a game of the 5th seed in the West and are looking like genuine threats heading into the playoffs. Nick Wright has pegged them to actually go on to win the championship this season.
“The Lakers are winning the whole damn thing. LeBron gets ring number five, and Anthony Davis reclaims the respect so many of you have taken from him. My guy Colin Cowherd was trying to trade him all over the place. Here’s the situation, nobody wants to play them. Since the All-Star break, and LeBron missed some of that time, they’ve been one of the best teams in the entire conference. Second only to the (Sacramento Kings).

LeBron James will definitely want to push for his fifth ring this season and has declared the team’s intention of winning the title this year. No team that has ever started the season 2-10 has gone on to even make the playoffs, let alone win the NBA title, so it’ll be an incredible comeback story as well.
The Los Angeles Lakers Playoff Chances
The Lakers are closing in on their goal of reaching the 6th seed at minimum, with a chance to even better that by getting to 5. Their game against the Clippers on Wednesday is going to be massive as the Clippers and Warriors are half a game ahead of the Lakers in the standings. The Clippers and Warriors have records of 41-38 on the season while the Lakers are currently at 40-38.
The Lakers are still not out of the play-in tournament. Anything can happen in a one or two-game shootout for the postseason, so guaranteeing a top-6 seed is the number one priority for the franchise. The winner of Lakers vs. Clippers can virtually guarantee seeding position over the other if they win their remaining games, which could have massive implications for the 6th seed.
The Lakers first play the Utah Jazz on Tuesday and face the same team for their season-ender. Given the Jazz lost Walker Kessler and are playing for their lottery position, a motivated Lakers should take care of them. The only other game on their schedule is against the Phoenix Suns after they face the Clippers, an extremely tricky matchup given Kevin Durant will be healthy and available.
