The Los Angeles Lakers might have some distance to cover to make the NBA 2022-23 playoffs, but they do hold first place for attempting the most free throws this season.

A look at the updated numbers after their 121-110 blowout win against the Chicago Bulls shows they have attempted 2,027 shots from the charity stripe.

In second place is the New York Knicks, with 1,978 attempts. Coming in third are the Detroit Pistons (1,963), while the Dallas Mavericks (1,962) and the Houston Rockets (1,943) complete the top five.

Focusing solely on LA, here’s a quick look at how their players have fared with their free throw attempts:

1. Anthony Davis – 397 – 78.6%

2. LeBron James – 307 – 76.5%

3. Dennis Schroder – 238 – 87.0%

4. Russell Westbrook – 238 – 65.5%

5. Austin Reaves – 228 – 86.0%

6. Thomas Bryant – 108 – 74.1%

7. Lonnie Walker IV – 106 – 85.8%

8. Wenyen Gabriel – 84 – 61.9%

9. Patrick Beverley – 50 – 78.0%

10. Rui Hachimura – 49 – 73.5%

In related news, the Lakers have a massive free-throw attempt differential this season. Their +411 is the highest in the league. The Sacramento Kings are +193, and that shows the wide gap between these two teams.

The Los Angeles Lakers Are En Route To The Playoffs

Considering they failed to qualify for the playoffs last season with a dismal 33-49 record, the Lakers have been more consistent this season, especially after some valuable additions ahead of the trade deadline.

Their win against the Bulls sees them 38-38 and placed eighth in the West as they keep their playoff hopes alive. LA has battled injuries and inconsistency but has impressively held its own by clinching key games.

With six games left in the season, the chances of the Lakers finishing sixth seed, as proclaimed by James, looks likely. Per FiveThirtyEight, the Purple and Gold have a 63% chance of making the postseason and a 2% chance of winning the NBA championship.

For now, they will look to take it one step at a time and make the playoffs without having to battle for a spot via the play-in tournament.
