Center Joel Embiid is widely considered to be one of the top superstars in the league, and there’s no doubt that he’s shown that he can be a dominant scorer against any defense in the league.

It is clear that the superstar is having another stellar year this season, and that has put him in the conversation for the MVP award. However, Joel Embiid clearly has other priorities, and his focus is clearly on the postseason.

“It’s all about the playoffs,” Embiid said, per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Being in the MVP race, I told you, I don’t care. If I win, good. If I don’t, it’s whatever. That’s not where my focus is…If my focus was on [the MVP], I could have run up the stats against Chicago and could have gone for a triple-double or kept the 30-point streak or whatever. But I don’t care because you know, truth be told, we were up 30 [points]. I wasn’t needed anyways. But to be the MVP, you also have to have great stats. I just don’t care.”

This is definitely a good mentality from Joel Embiid. Though winning the MVP award is obviously a huge honor for any player, it is clear that what ultimately matters more is winning championships.

Currently, Joel Embiid is averaging 33.3 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He has managed to lead them to the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference this season, and they definitely have a chance to get deep in the playoffs if they remain healthy.

Doc Rivers Thinks Joel Embiid Should Have Won The MVP Last Season And Should Win This Year

The MVP race is very close between Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Embiid definitely has a lot of people who think he should win it this year. One of those people was his coach, Doc Rivers.

“I’m going to say this one more time, I’m going to try to stay off this subject,” Rivers said. “Joel is the MVP. I thought he was the MVP last year. I don’t think anyone needs me to campaign for him, I think the proof is in the pudding.”

It remains to be seen who will actually end up winning the MVP award. All three of the main candidates have good cases this season based on production and team impact,  and we’ll see who the voters end up picking.
