New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is one of the most exciting young talents in the league, and many are high on his potential. However, what has held him back in the early stage of his career thus far is injuries.

As of right now, Zion Williamson is dealing with a hamstring injury, and there is no definite timetable for when he’ll return to the team. There are many that have been frustrated with his injury issues over the years. In fact, recently, Kendrick Perkins stated that the New Orleans Pelicans need to move the big man this summer.

“I would actually trade Zion… Can you trust him to be your franchise guy? Since he came in the league, no. You can’t trust that he’s gonna be available on the floor… This is starting to be a trend.”

Though trading a generational talent like Zion Williamson could come back to bite the New Orleans Pelicans in the future, his talent is tough to pass on. Their best hope is that he ends up doing better from a durability standpoint in the future, as his ceiling is an MVP-level player.

This season, Zion Williamson has put up 26.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 4.6 APG in the 29 games he played with the New Orleans Pelicans. He is a dominant player when on the court, and hopefully, he figures out how to stay available for the team.

The New Orleans Pelicans Are Optimistic Zion Williamson Will Come Back Before The End Of The Regular Season

Recently, it was reported that the New Orleans Pelicans are “optimistic” about Zion Williamson potentially coming back for the rest of the regular season. However, the big man still hasn’t done any “significant contact work.”

“The Pelicans have been optimistic that he’s gonna return at some point before the end of the regular season. I’m told he did some on-court running and shooting this week. But I haven’t been told that he has progressed to significant contact work… The Pelicans will re-evaluate him this week.”

The New Orleans Pelicans definitely need Zion Williamson to come back if they are to try and make a deep playoff run. They will have to rely on Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum to keep the team afloat until then.

There is no doubt that the Pelicans could be a force in the West. However, they have consistently been held back by the absence of key players, and hopefully, they can still make the playoffs this season.
