The NBA MVP race is usually always interesting, but this season has brought an extra layer of competitiveness to the conversation that we haven’t seen in years.

Currently, Joel EMbiid, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are all in a tight race to the finish with a strong case to be made for any of the three.

But if you ask NBA legend Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier, he’ll explain that Embiid is the MVP without question.

“Clyde Frazier says Joel Embiid is his MVP, because ‘“he has no weaknesses,”’ Nekias Duncan of Basketballnews.com wrote on Twitter. “Points to Jokic’s interior defense and Giannis’ free throw & jump shooting as counter examples.”

According to Frazier, Embiid has no weaknesses in his game — and there is some truth to that. Unlike many superstars of today, Joel is dominant on both ends of the floor and can score in a multitude of ways from the post to the three-point line.

While it’s still wrong to say that Embiid has no weaknesses (durability and health being the biggest), his well-rounded game certainly deserves respect and it may be enough to earn him the MVP this season.

Is Joel Embiid A Top The Player In The Game Today?

Averaging 33.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per Giannis Antetokounmpome on 54% shooting, Embiid is having, arguably his best season ever and it has been getting recognition from all corners of the NBA world.

In fact, Embiid’s performance this season (and throughout his career) has some comparing him to Shaquille O’Neal and Haleem Olajuwon.

“I’m not ready to go there with Hakeem (Olajuwon), but I think he’s a better offensive player than David Robinson was,” said Bill Simmons. “I think he had more stuff to his game than Shaq ever did. Shaq was a little more overpowering, but Embiid brings more to the table.”

Only time will tell what’s in store for Embiid this season, but he’s going to have to win in the playoffs if he wants the 76ers to be taken seriously in the East.

Until then, Embiid’s career will always be haunted by his shortcomings and the many “what ifs” that have surfaced since it all began.
