The Minnesota Timberwolves have been without Karl-Anthony Towns for much of this season and it seemed like they might lose Anthony Edwards for an extended period of time as well.
In the first quarter of their game against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, Edwards landed awkwardly on his right foot and screamed in pain immediately.

Edwards, still clearly in a lot of pain, was helped off the court by Towns and a member of the staff.

He was initially listed as questionable for the rest of the game, which was a bit of a surprise, but he was eventually ruled out. Edwards managed to get back to the bench a while later, but in a walking boot.

Timberwolves fans would be hoping that the injury won’t keep him out for too long. Edwards has had a fabulous season so far, averaging 24.7 PPG, 5.9 RPG, and 4.4 APG while shooting 46.1% from the field. The likes of JJ Redick believe he has already taken the leap to superstardom and the 21-year-old became an All-Star for the first time in his career this year as well.
The rest of the team battled hard in his absence but would go on to lose 139-131 in double overtime. It was the Timberwolves’ fourth loss in the last five games and they certainly aren’t trending upward at the moment.
This Could Be A Hammer Blow To The Timberwolves’ Playoff Hopes
Edwards has been the biggest reason why the Timberwolves have remained in the race for the playoffs despite Towns playing just 21 games this season. With both of them now out, they don’t have a reliable scoring option, which is a big concern.
This loss dropped the Timberwolves to 35-36 and a couple more losses could see them fall out of the play-in spots. With Towns unavailable for a couple more weeks and Edwards seemingly missing a few weeks. at the least, it’s looking quite unlikely that the Timberwolves will make it back to the playoffs.
