Superstar Damian Lillard is one of the elite point guards in today’s NBA, and there’s no doubt that he has impressed many with his prowess from beyond the arc. Lillard is known for his loyalty to the Portland Trail Blazers, and as of now, it looks as though he’ll finish his career with the franchise.

Previously, we have seen a lot of criticism directed toward Damian Lillard for his loyalty to the Trail Blazers, as many believe that he will never win a championship with the franchise. Recently, Damian Lillard blasted “ring culture” in the league, stating that “the journey” toward that goal matters.

“The NBA I play in now, is not the NBA I came into,” said Lillard. “I play for the love of the game; I want the competition. I want to know what it feels like to win. I want to see my teammates do well… I enjoy the bonding part of it. Now it’s like… regular season don’t count. Get a ring… What is this?”

“I was talking after a game like a week ago. They was asking me about “Dame, but like to win a ring?”. Bro, I don’t need to prove to y’all that I want to win a ring. Why the hell do I play?… I understand we play to win championships… we can’t keep acting like nothing matters, the rest of the stuff, the journey doesn’t matter.”

There is no doubt that Damian Lillard makes some good points here. The regular season feels a little devalued in the modern era, with many fans only focusing on what players do in the playoffs. With that being said, winning at the highest level still matters, but championships aren’t the only way to judge a player.

Damian Lillard is currently averaging 32.1 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 7.3 APG for the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite his individual excellence, the Portland Trail Blazers are still out of a play-in tournament spot, though the star believes that he can drag them to the playoffs. It remains to be seen how they will do for the rest of the season.

Damian Lillard Wants To Win A Championship His Way

There’s no question that Damian Lillard wants to win a championship, but it is clear that he wants to do it his way. There’s a certain allure to being able to win it with the team that drafted you, and perhaps he will be able to do so in the future.

Though it may be easier for Damian Lillard to win a championship on another franchise, his loyalty should absolutely be respected. If the Trail Blazers can build a competitive team around Lillard next season, then perhaps we could see him get deep into the playoffs.
