The New York Knicks didn’t miss the chance to rub crosstown rivals, the Brooklyn Nets after recording a blowout 142-118 win. Their social media team took to Twitter to quote Robert De Niro’s iconic line from ‘A Bronx Tale’ mocking the Nets’ failed superteam.

“Remember, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. You could have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t do the right thing, then nothing happens,” De Niro says in the 1993 crime drama, and the Knicks likened it to the superteam trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden Brooklyn assembled, and then blew the move.

The Nets have been the subject of criticism ever since Harden left the team and the side acquired Ben Simmons instead. The guard’s departure to the Philadelphia 76ers just after a year of playing in Brooklyn was the beginning of the end of the team’s superteam aspirations.

That said, the Nets still had a massive surge as they registered a streak of wins in December. Soon after, Irving dropped a shocker by requesting Brooklyn for a trade, and Durant followed suit. With both players finding new homes with the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns respectively, the Nets now find themselves in a place where they need to stay consistent to make the playoffs.

This consistency took a hit after the Knicks trounced them by 24 points. The Nets are now 34-28 and are still in the hunt to make the postseason, but they will need to get past their three-game losing stretch to still hang on to the chance of making the next stage.

Brooklyn Nets Planning To Shut Ben Simmons Down For The Remainder Of The Season

Ben Simmons’ 2022-23 campaign has been riddled with injuries and inconsistency, and there have been reports of the Nets shutting down the guard for the remainder of the season, while also planning to move him in the summer.

According to NBA insider Jack Settleman, Brooklyn is reportedly mulling over moving Simmons. The Australian has been averaging a below-par 6.9 points, 6.3 boards, and 6.1 assists this season, and while he has the shooting talent around him, he’s never been effective or aggressive in making attacking moves. The struggle has been a distinct observation.

Only time will tell if Simmons will indeed do well for another team. Perhaps, a break is what he needs to get himself back to his All-Star self and be the reliable option each team looks for.
