Ben Simmons was once an All-Star caliber player with the Philadelphia 76ers, being well-known for his slashing ability, defense, and playmaking. However, he has struggled to get into that form with the Brooklyn Nets.

One of the things that have hampered Ben Simmons’ progress with the Brooklyn Nets is consistent knee issues. It seems as though those problems are severe, as it was recently reported by insider Jack Settleman that the Nets are planning to shut Ben Simmons down for the season. The report also mentioned that the team will try to move the big man this summer.

There is no doubt that this is unfortunate news to hear about Ben Simmons. Injuries are the worst part of sports. The news about the Nets attempting to offload his contract in the future is also interesting, as it was previously reported that Simmons has no trade value around the league. It remains to be seen which team will end up taking him on and whether he will ever return to All-Star form.

Ben Simmons has averaged 6.9 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 6.1 APG for the Brooklyn Nets this season, and his scoring has noticeably taken a huge dip from previous years. Though he has been surrounded by 3PT shooters, Ben Simmons hasn’t been aggressive in driving to the rim. It is clear that he has struggled, but perhaps we’ll see Ben Simmons do better on another team.

Ben Simmons Has Said It Will Take Him Time To Become An All-Star Again

Previously, Ben Simmons claimed that it will take him some time to become a star-level player once again, noting that recovering from back surgery isn’t quick. Simmons added that there will be “ups and downs.”

“Back surgery is not a light thing so it takes time,” said Ben Simmons. “Back surgery, you’re affected everywhere. Your knees. So it’s just something I gotta stay on top of. I’ve been saying it from the start. There’s gonna be ups and downs. … I’m not gonna be the same player I was a few years ago. That’s gonna take time to get back.”

It makes sense that back surgery will take some time to recover from, and hopefully, we see Ben Simmons at the level he was in the past at some point in the future. It is never good to see a player struggle like this.

Ben Simmons still has the talent to be successful, but it is clear that this won’t happen with the Brooklyn Nets. Hopefully, Simmons figures things out and thrives wherever he ends up later on.
