There was a lot of frustration among Los Angeles Lakers fans when it was announced that Kyrie Irving was headed to the Dallas Mavericks. Trading for Kyrie was seen as the move which would help the Lakers to turn things around this season, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Still, that doesn’t mean that there are no moves the Lakers can make prior to the February 9th deadline. They have a Plan B which involves trades with teams like the Jazz and a couple of likely players to be traded away from L.A. have emerged.
While Russell Westbrook has been a part of trade rumors for a while now, the Lakers are also trying to part ways with two new acquisitions from this past summer. Jovan Buha from The Athletic reported prior to Irving being traded to Dallas that both Patrick Beverley and Lonnie Walker could be included in a package for Irving or in a separate deal to upgrade the roster.

The Lakers have been shopping Beverley for a bit as well, as he is averaging just 6.4 PPG while shooting 39.9% from the field and 34.2% from beyond the arc. He has been decent defensively, but the offensive production has just been terrible. Walker, meanwhile, is averaging a career-high 13.9 PPG while shooting 45.7% from the field and could have some value around the league, hence his inclusion.
The Lakers Are In Talks For A 3-Team Trade
Expect a lot of rumors in the next couple of days as the Lakers would be looking at various players around the league to improve their roster. A recent report stated that they are in talks for a 3-team trade with the Detroit Pistons and the Philadelphia 76ers, which would see them land Tobias Harris and Furkan Korkmaz.
They would have to give up Westbrook and some draft picks, but are hesitant, once again, to trade their draft capital. At the end of the day, whether it’s Westbrook or Beverley, or Walker, the Lakers will have to also give up at least one of their first-round picks if they are to get some good players in return.
