It’s tough to be in Ben Simmons’ shoes right now. The constantly under-fire guard was on the troll’s radar even if he did try to do something right.

The Aussie has been in focus long before Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant exited the Brooklyn Nets, and the spotlight has burned brighter since the duo’s departure.

The new-look Nets trounced the Chicago Bulls 116-105, and Simmons ended his evening with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. It might not be the greatest of performances, but he did attempt a three — a rarity of sorts, and that had fans roasting him again.

It was the only three Simmons attempted from the logo, and while he did end up missing it, social media was filled with comments trolling the guard.

Unironically, good on him for trying. If he practices and gets used to taking long range shots then maybe he’ll improve.

That said, I’ll admit I chuckled at this. https://t.co/HbJiezIbBq

Simmons may have missed the shot, but coming off the bench, he did display the fight that has blown hot and cold so far this season. Perhaps, this is the sign of the spunk returning.

Ben Simmons Has Struggled This Season

It’s not been the greatest of runs this season for Simmons. If it was getting fouled out and getting slammed for it earlier in the season, his lack of shooting attempts saw him generate some bad press.

Simmons has been averaging 7.3 points, 6.5 boards, and 6.3 assists this season — his career lowest thus far. Earlier, he admitted that he would need some time to get back to his old formidable self. Per Brian Lewis of The New York Post:

“Back surgery is not a light thing so it takes time. Back surgery you’re affected everywhere. Your knees. So it’s just something I gotta stay on top of. I’ve been saying it from the start. There’s gonna be ups and downs. … I’m not gonna be the same player I was a few years ago. That’s gonna take time to get back.”

The Nets don’t really have time on their side, and while they are primed to make the playoffs given their good record in the East, all eyes will be on Simmons to see if he can help the side consolidate on the foundation they have had.

It’s a pity that he does get the brickbats more than the bouquets, but there is hope that Simmons will eventually get back to the player he once was.
